What the agent knows is up to you: websites, PDFs and notes.

Your agent answers from sources you control: websites, PDF documents and notes. You follow the status of each source, you test the agent from the screen and you share common knowledge across your agents.

Why this feature

An agent is only as good as what it knows about you. A price that changes, seasonal opening hours, a special instruction: if the source isn’t up to date, neither is the answer.

The knowledge base is there to keep you in control of that material: you know what has been learned, where it comes from, and whether each source is properly taken into account.

How it works

  1. In Knowledge, you open the agent and add a source: the address of a public website, a PDF document or free text.

  2. Alyas analyses the source, whose status is shown: pending, analysing, indexed, error, disabled, or stuck and needing a restart.

  3. You filter sources by website, file or text, search them, restart the analysis of a source in error or delete it.

  4. If you enable smart search, the agent no longer keeps everything in mind: it fetches the right extracts at the moment it answers. You restart indexing when your sources have changed.

  5. You test the agent from the screen to check that its answers are about your business.

What you control

  • Each agent’s sources: websites, PDF files and texts, with the date of their last update.

  • General knowledge, shared at account level: a text, a website or a link to a document, which each agent uses or not, in addition to its own knowledge.

  • Smart search, which you can enable agent by agent.

  • Indexing: it restarts on request, and the screen flags when your sources have changed since the last indexing.

  • Deleting a source, with confirmation.

Limits to know about

Worth knowing before you rely on it, stated plainly.

  • With smart search, the text of PDFs can’t be indexed yet: remove the PDF or copy its content in as text to enable the search.
  • In general knowledge, a document is given as a public https link; it is stored, but not processed.
  • Accepted documents are PDFs, and websites must be public.
  • Saving general knowledge regenerates the instructions of the agents that use it, and processing a website is not instant.
  • The quality of the answers depends on the information provided: the agent can make mistakes or lack a piece of information, which is why test questions are worth asking.

Frequently asked questions

Which sources can the agent learn?

Public websites, PDF documents and texts that you type in yourself. General knowledge, shared at account level, can also be made available to several agents.

What is smart search?

An option you can set agent by agent. The agent no longer carries all its knowledge in its instructions: it fetches the useful extracts from its indexed sources at the moment it answers. PDFs must first be copied in as text.

What happens when my website changes?

The screen shows that your sources have changed since the last indexing, and you can restart indexing.

Can the agent make up an answer?

It relies on the information you give it, but the quality of its answers depends on that and a mistake remains possible. Ask it test questions, complete the sources when an answer is missing, and let it hand over when it doesn’t know.

Are my PDFs read?

Yes, as a source for the agent. The only exception: with smart search, the text of PDFs can’t be indexed yet, so you need to copy the content in as text.

What is knowledge shared between agents for?

Writing once what applies to all of them: returns policy, opening hours, brand tone, legal notices, general FAQ. Each agent chooses whether to use it, in addition to its own knowledge.
