Four platforms, four positionings
Vapi presents itself as a voice agent platform “for builders”, designed API-first: you configure the voice, the conversation flow, telephony and integrations. Retell AI combines a drag-and-drop visual canvas with APIs and SDKs for advanced programmatic control.
Synthflow positions itself on the enterprise market, with a visual Flow Designer and its own telephony infrastructure. Bland AI explicitly targets regulated sectors (healthcare, insurance, financial services, logistics) and advertises enterprise deployments put into production within 30 days; it also offers a building assistant, Norm, presented as usable without any voice AI experience.
What building an agent involves
With a platform, the agent is a project: writing the instructions, structuring the knowledge base, defining the transfer rules, connecting the calendar and CRM, then testing dozens of conversations before going live. After that, every change to your opening hours, prices or services means updating the configuration.
This work is valuable when the agent has to follow precise business logic, call your own systems or handle large volumes. It does, however, represent a real cost, in internal time or in contractor fees, for a business that just wants its calls answered.
EU compliance: read the commitments, assume nothing
The published commitments differ. Retell AI states that it complies with HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and ISO 27001, and highlights an “Enterprise On-prem” option for deployment in your own infrastructure. Synthflow advertises SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS and GDPR certifications, as well as hosting by region. Bland AI mentions deployment options in the United States, the EU and Asia-Pacific on request. Vapi’s home page highlights SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI.
For the actual location of the data, the sub-processing of the models and the announcement of the AI to the caller, ask the vendor and check your own configuration: on a platform, you are the one building the agent. Alyas is hosted in the EU and always announces the AI and the recording at the start of the call.
When a platform is the right choice
An agency or integrator deploying agents for several clients, a product team that wants to build voice into its software, or a large company with complex scenarios and outbound calls will find a freedom there that no packaged solution offers.
When a turnkey solution is enough
A practice, a shop or an SME that wants an agent that picks up, answers from its website or documents, takes contact details, offers an appointment and transfers to a chosen number when needed has no need to build these components. Alyas already provides them, with a transcript and summary of every call; plans and included minutes are detailed on the Pricing page.
Our verdict
If you have developers, an integrator or a very specific need, a platform such as Vapi, Retell AI, Synthflow or Bland AI will give you control over everything. If you want a working agent quickly, without a technical project, a turnkey solution like Alyas is a better fit.
Frequently asked questions
Can Vapi be used without coding?
Vapi presents itself as a platform for “builders”, designed API-first. It is aimed primarily at technical profiles; Retell AI and Synthflow put more emphasis on visual editors, and Bland AI on a building assistant.
Do these platforms host data in Europe?
It depends on the vendor and the plan. Bland AI mentions EU deployment options on request, Synthflow hosting by region, and Retell AI an “Enterprise On-prem” option for deployment in your own infrastructure. Ask for written confirmation for your case.
Do I need a developer to set up Alyas?
No. You provide your information (website, text, PDF), optionally connect Google Calendar or Cal.com, then forward your line to the agent. A 10-day free trial, no card required, lets you test it.
